The 19-year-old has played in five league games this season. Real see him as part of the first-team squad from next year.

The approach came from a Premier League club and was turned down quickly, according to reports in Spain. Real did not open talks and made it clear that the player is not for sale in the current season.

Why Real said no

The midfielder is one of the academy players the club rates most highly. He trained with the first team throughout pre-season and has since been given minutes in La Liga, mostly as a substitute.

Coaches describe him as a calm passer who is comfortable receiving the ball under pressure. Those qualities fit the way Real like to control games, and the staff believe he can grow into a regular in the coming seasons.

The club’s plan is to increase his role step by step. Selling him now would go against that plan and would send the wrong message to other young players hoping for a path into the first team.

  • Five La Liga appearances this season
  • Trained with the first team in pre-season
  • Seen as a first-team squad player from next year
  • Not for sale during the current season

There is also a financial logic. Young players who establish themselves in the first team at a club like Real Madrid tend to increase in value quickly. If a sale ever made sense, the club would expect to receive much more in a year or two than it could now.

The English club’s interest

The club behind the approach has not been named in the reports. Premier League sides have become more active in the market for young Spanish players in recent years, often offering a clearer route to regular football.

That argument can be persuasive for players who feel blocked at a big club. In this case, however, the player is already getting minutes, and there is no indication that he wants to leave.

The English club may come back in the summer, when the player will have one year less on his contract.

A shorter contract usually weakens the selling club’s position, which is why Real may look to extend the deal before then. Reports in Spain suggest that talks on a new contract could begin in the spring.

Real Madrid’s season so far

The decision comes at a busy time for the club. Real lead La Liga with 25 points from ten games, two ahead of Barcelona, and have the division’s top scorer in Kylian Mbappé, who has 12 league goals.

Later today they host Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu in El Clásico, and next week they face Liverpool in the Champions League. With so many games in a short period, the coaching staff are expected to rotate the squad, which could mean further chances for the young midfielder.

Real’s approach to academy players

Real Madrid have sold many academy graduates over the years, often with buy-back clauses or sell-on percentages that allow the club to benefit from the player’s later progress. Those deals usually involve players the club does not see as part of its first-team plans.

This case is different. The midfielder is viewed as a player for the senior squad, not as a future sale, and the club is reluctant to include any kind of buy-back arrangement for a player it wants to keep.

A club spokesperson said Real do not comment on offers for their players. The player’s representatives have not made any public statement.

What happens next

For now, the player will continue to train with the first team and is likely to get more minutes as the season goes on. The key period will be the summer, when the English club could return with a bigger offer and Real will have to decide whether to extend his contract.

If the club does offer him a new deal, it would be a strong sign of its long-term plans. If not, interest from abroad is likely to grow. For a 19-year-old with five La Liga games already this season, the next few months could shape the rest of his career.

Supporters will be watching closely, especially if he gets a chance in one of the big games before the winter break.
